TEACHERS As a service to school districts in Trumbull County, TCESC helps to credential substitutes for Bloomfield Mespo, Bristol, Brookfield, Champion, Howland, Joseph Badger, LaBrae, Lakeview, Liberty, Lordstown, Maplewood, Mathews, McDonald,
Newton Falls, Southington, Trumbull Career and Technical Center, Weathersfield and TCESC. Individuals wishing to serve as substitute teachers
in any of the above districts must complete the proper paperwork and training through TCESC.

TCESC
meets with substitutes for an initial credentials meeting by appointment
at the following times each day: 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to
3:00 pm. Please make an appointment by calling 330.505.2800.
Substitute
Checklist

Individuals
who would like to be considered as substitute candidates
must provide the following:
Appropriate
TCESC Application
A
valid teaching license:

ODE
Licensure application: Download the appropriate application from the
ODE Website. http://www.ode.state.oh.us Type
in "license application" in the Search Box.

Teachers:
Official
student issued transcript showing bachelor's degree ( No
photocopies). This must be submitted with the application.

Check
or money order payable to Treasurer, State of Ohio. No Cash.

Teachers
may secure a one-year substitute license for $25 or a five year
license for $125.

I-9 Employment Verification

Must be completed in the
TCESC office.

Requires proper
identification. A passport alone is sufficient identification.
If you do not have a passport, you must have
a driver’s license and a social security card or
a driver’s license and an original birth certificate. Photocopies of
these documents will not be accepted.
A
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check:

All
applicants for substitute teaching must have both an Ohio BCI and an
FBI check.

All substitute candidates must read carefully and sign this document to be considered for placement on the satisfactory and credentialed substitute list that TCESC provides to school districts.

Completion of a
Substitute Training Workshop
TCESC’s
required substitute training workshop can be completed in a traditional
2-hour workshop session at TCESC’s office or online. The content and
curriculum for both courses is the same.
This
workshop is required for all individuals wishing to be substitutes in
Trumbull County. If you can document that you have attended a workshop
within the last five years and have completed any new credentialing
requirements, you will not be required to complete the workshop. Also, if
you are a retired teacher who has been retired for less than five years,
you will be excused from the workshop if you provide a letter on school
letterhead documenting your years of teaching service and signed by a
district administrator.
Traditional
Workshop
- The
traditional workshop allows face-to-face communication.
- It
is a 2-hour workshop.
- Individuals
must register. Please call 330-505-2800 ext. 140 to register.
- All
workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at TCESC, 6000
Youngstown Warren Road, Niles, Ohio
44446.

Online
Workshop
- The
online workshop can be done at any time of the day or night.
- Individuals
must have an access to the internet and an active email account in
order to complete the online workshop.
- Individuals
must register for the online workshop. The registration will be done
at the initial credentialing meeting.
- There
is a non-refundable $15 charge for the workshop. This is payable via a $15 money
order only, which is non-refundable. The payment may be combined with the money order for the background
checks. If a substitute is having both Ohio and federal background
checks completed at TCESC and completing the online workshop, the substitute
may do one money order for $75.
- Individuals
will be issued a password to enter the online workshop during the
credentialing meeting.
- Individuals

substitute training workshop.
- The
individual will email TCESC at nancy.homlitas@neomin.org
upon completion of the course.
- The
course is not completed until the individual has taken every quiz and
scored a minimum of an 8 (80%) on each quiz.
- TCESC
will review the course results and issue a certificate of completion
via email within 10-14 days after completion of the course.

A code is needed to enter the course and that code will be distributed after payment for the course has been made. Individuals who have not paid for the course will not be issued a certificate of completion.
Please
note that you will also be required to complete payroll information and
forms in each district in which you substitute.
